Having been involved in Drum Corps for such a long time I know how magical it can be to witness the energy that is created before the last run of the season. However, this time it was different because all my experience has been from a Brass perspective. I had no idea what the atmosphere would be like in the warm up hall at Fenton Manor before Winter Guard finals.
I’ve been in the fortunate position to have been able to photograph the Kidsgrove Scouts Open Guard from the start of the season until now. My strategy was clear in my head, I wanted to capture the emotion of the members and give our supports an insight in to how a top winter guard prepares to do the show of their lives.
Rob Swindells is qualified in sports psychology and having talked to him about pre show preparation previously, I used the information he has given me to plan my shoot. In fact I must credit Rob Swindells and Tez Smith for my personal development over the past 5 years. Rob has done a fantastic job of removing my limiting beliefs ( we all have them ) and Tez’s energy makes you feel like you are a Rock Star. Being confident at what you do is critical to success in life.
